The name is to be understood as a reminiscence of traditions: In the past, distillery workers turned the germinating barley by the ton with shovels, and they did this by hand hour after hour.
From this hard work, their shoulders sometimes ached and their arms hung low, almost like a chimpanzee.
This temporary discomfort was called 'monkey shoulder' and this scotch was named after it.

Unlike conventional blends, Monkey Shoulder is made from 100% malt whisky.
